Two for kids in high school

Revival by Stephen King
“That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons, even death may die.”  H.P.Lovecraft

Jaime first meets Pastor Charlie Jacobs when he is 6 years old. Pastor Jacobs' hobby is electricity and he creates some fun distractions for the children in his church. But when tragedy strikes his family he becomes dangerously obsessed and starts down the long road to madness. This story follows the lives of Jaime and Charlie Jacobs for several decades as they cross paths many times.  Quietly terrifying, this is another of King's books that will stay with you for a long time. Recommended for older teens who just can't get enough of horror stories.

The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson
Hayley's a senior in high school, new to the school and town she and her dad now live in.  Her dad is veteran of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars who harbors many demons stemming from the horrible things he has seen and done during his time in the service. (“Killing people is easier than it should be.” Dad put on his beret. “Staying alive is harder.” ) It's just the two of them (Hayley's mom died when she was very young) and Hayley feels responsible for taking care of her dad who drinks way too much and smokes marijuana almost daily. This is a heartbreaking portrayal of post traumatic stress disorder and the havoc it wreaks on families.  Recommended for those who like realistic timely fiction.
