This is the perfect example of why you should NEVER judge a book by its cover! Travis was 16 years old when he "died" of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He agreed to be part of a scientific/medical experiment just before his imminent death and allowed doctors to remove his head and freeze it to wait for a donor body to come available for a transplant. This technology had not yet been perfected and he was told it could be many years before he would be "resurrected" with a new body. But science moved way faster than that! Five years after he "died" he has been brought back to life with a brand new body! To Travis it's only been a few weeks, but to everyone he knows it's been five years. His girlfriend is now 21 and engaged to another man, his best friend is in his last year of college, and he finds himself in high school with kids who were in elementary school last time he was there. It's a big adjustment for everyone concerned! Not to mention the constant attention from reporters and newspeople. This is a really well-written clever book, full of heart and humor. Travis (nicknamed Noggin by his new best friend in high school) tries to take everything in stride as he attempts to reconnect with the people he left behind five years ago. And it made the short list for the National Book Award for youth literature this year. It's a book for both boys and girls. Trust me, you won't be disappointed in this one!
